1. Quarantine at a designated place is the best way to contain transmission.

In most cases, the incubation period of COVID-19 is up to 14 days. Which means if heath monitoring shows a person quarantined is in good health conditions for 14 consecutive days, the possibility of his or her getting infected can generally be ruled out.

However, in case of infection, quarantine at a designated place enables early detection, timely response and proper treatment. It is therefore the most proactive, effective and the safest way of quarantine.

2. Quarantine is the best way to ensure safety of the family members of a person placed under quarantine.

As the COVID-19 mainly transmits through droplets, if one who returns from overseas and is in the incubation period of the disease fails to take strong protective measures after arriving at home, he or she will easily transmit the virus to family members through close contact and infect them all. Elderly family members and family members with underlying conditions are especially susceptible to infection and are more likely to become severely or critically ill. Therefore, unless in special circumstances, quarantine at a designated place is crucial to the safety of both an overseas returnee and his or her family.

3. Quarantine is conducted in hotels with good ventilation, where one under quarantine stays in a separate room in an isolated area.

Daily health monitoring is conducted by medical staff, and meals are delivered separately and services provided within the sealed off area of isolation. WIFI is available at almost all such hotels so one under quarantine can access the internet. If one under quarantine develops discomfort like fever, cough, or fatigue, he or she should immediately inform quarantine staff and readily accept treatment.
