To whom it may concern
1. Foreigners who pursue long-term academic studies in Beijing.
2. Foreign students who are currently studying in colleges in Beijing and need to participate in off-campus internship in enterprises or organizations as dictated by school courses.
What to prepare in advance and how to do it
·A valid passport or other required international travel documents.
·Complete the VISA/STAY PERMIT/RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION FORM with black ink, attached with a recent color photo (bare-headed, full face) taken against a white background, measuring 35mm (wide) by 53mm (high). The application form must be stamped with the official seal of the school.
·Valid accommodation registration of the applicant either at a local police station in their place of residence or the hotel where they are staying.
·Foreigners who apply for residence permits for studying shall submit the following documents:
a.For X1 visa holders, a certificate of enrollment or admission letter with information on the study duration from the host institute should be submitted.
b.For non-X1 visa holders, besides the aforementioned Visa Application Form, a Visa Application for Study in China (Form JW201/JW202), or an approval letter for the enrollment of the applicant issued by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education is needed.
c.Applicants, who are aged above 18 and apply for a residence permit valid for more than one year, shall provide a Verification Certificate of Medical Examination Records of Overseas Personnel issued by entry-exit health and quarantine institutions in China. The Verification Certificate is valid for 6 months since the date of issuance.
·Foreigners who apply for the annotation for off-campus internship on International Student Residence Permits shall submit the following documents:
a.Certification letter (in Chinese) on enrollment and approval of the off-campus internship by the college that the applicant is currently studying in. The name of the organization or enterprise for internship, term of internship, and job description shall be specified in the letter.
b.Certification letter (in Chinese)on receiving the applicant in internship or contract of internship. Information about the applicant and the internship shall be provided in the letter, including personal information, the name of the college that the applicant is currently studying in, the term of internship and job description. These two letters shall be consistent with the information provided.
Timeline for Application
Applicants may apply for a residence permit of more than 180 days and not exceeding the study duration certified by the college.
Matters for attention
·The applicants are required to take a face-to-face interview. However, for applicants aged under 16 or above 60 and with difficulty in traveling due to illness to apply for an extension of residence permit, the inviter, the applicant's family members, or service agencies may submit the application on behalf of the applicant (a photocopy of the trustee's ID is required). Nevertheless, if the exit-entry administration department deems an interview is necessary, the applicant must attend the interview in person.
·For the above materials, the original documents need to be submitted for verification and the photocopied submitted.
·Any application material written in a foreign language (excluding English) should be translated into Chinese.
·Applicants who have not yet canceled China’s household registration should submit their application after the cancellation.
·Foreigners under the age of 18 who submit the application for the first time in China shall provide their birth certificates, passports, and permanent residence permits of their parents, along with any other relevant documents as proof of their nationalities.
Reminder on Laws and Regulations
·If visas held by foreigners specify that they need to apply for residence permits after entry, they shall, within 30 days upon their entry, apply for foreigners' residence permits.
·Foreigners residing in China who apply for the extension of residence shall file an application at least 30 days prior to the expiration of their residence permits' validity period.
·While the applicant's passport or other travel documents are under the legal custody of the exit-entry administration department for visa processing, they may lawfully stay and reside within China’s territory by presenting the application receipt notice.
·International students will be handled by the public security department according to law if they go beyond the place and duration specified in the residence permit.
·If the registered item in a foreigner's residence permit changes (the items include the holder’s name, gender, date of birth, reason for residence, duration of residence, date and place of issuance, passport number, or other international travel documents number), the holder shall, within 10 days from the date of change, apply to the exit-entry administration of public security organ under the local people's government at or above the county level in the place of residence for the procedures for alteration.
·If the foreign student leaves the entity, violates provisions on exit and entry, dies, disappears or other serious circumstances arise, the entity that admits the foreign student shall, in a timely manner, report to the exit and entry administration authority of the public security organ.
·The exit and entry administration department of the public security authority may verify the purpose of the application via interview, telephone inquiry, on-site investigations, and so on.
·Decisions made by the exit-entry administration department of the public security authority to reject applications for the extension, renewal, or re-issuance of ordinary visas, or to not issue stay or residence permits, or to not extend the duration of residence, shall be considered final.
