On the afternoon of October 18, Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing, met with Alireza Zakani, Mayor of Tehran, Iran, who came to Beijing for the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF).
Yin said that, in the keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 3rd BRF, President Xi Jinping stressed that China hopes to deepen the Belt and Road cooperation with all partners and take such cooperation to a new stage of high-quality development. President Xi also announced eight major steps that China will take to support this cooperation. As the capitals of the two countries, Beijing and Tehran have carried out in-depth and fruitful exchanges and cooperation in areas such as urban governance and public health. Next year marks the 10th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between the two cities. Beijing is ready to continue working with Tehran to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen exchanges and mutual learning in urban governance, ecology and environment, and culture and tourism, and elevate the bilateral cooperation to a new level.
Zakani congratulated the success of the 3rd BRF and spoke highly of Beijing's urban governance and high-quality development. He expressed Tehran’s willingness to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Beijing and promote the sister-city relationship to deliver greater benefits to the people.
Mohsen Bakhtiar, Ambassador of Iran to China, and Mu Peng, Secretary General of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, attended the meeting.
