Recently, Beijing received the first mayor of its sister city, Dolgorsürengiin Sumyaabazar, together with his delegation from Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. In addition to the high-level meeting between the two cities, the delegation also visited relevant departments, had fruitful discussions and attended symposiums on urban planning, infrastructure, and high-tech agriculture, reaching broad consensus.

Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing met with Sumyaabazar and his delegation, expressing Beijing's willingness to strengthen friendly ties and mutually beneficial cooperation with Ulaanbaatar, thus contributing to the long-term sound and stable growth of China-Mongolia relations.

Qi Jing, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress, and representatives of Ulaanbaatar's city councils had in-depth discussions on legislation and supervision in the two cities during the meeting.

The delegation also interacted with a number of institutions in Beijing during their visit.

Learn about Beijing's Development Plan

The delegation were shown Beijing's history, urban planning, and construction at the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall. "We got to know such a beautiful city here. My heartfelt thanks go to your hospitality," wrote J. Sandagsuren, First Deputy Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, in his comments for the exhibition hall.

Share Experience in Smart Venue Renovation

When briefed on the new technologies applied in the renovation of the Beijing Workers' Stadium, such as green and low-carbon building, digital fabrication and construction of formwork, robotic joint operation, 3D printing and prefabrication, they hoped to draw on Beijing's new technology-empowered and green development model.

Explore New Path to High-Tech Agriculture

Through communication with the Pinggu district government, the delegation learned about Beijing's latest achievements in integrating agriculture, culture, and tourism. Zhao Wenkan, Deputy Mayor of Pinggu District, detailed the development philosophy with high-tech agriculture, high-capacity logistics, and leisure and new fashion as the core. The delegation expected better mutual learning on how to apply technological advances in agriculture to inspire Ulaanbaatar in its agriculture, culture, and tourism.

Share New Opportunities for Infrastructure Cooperation

In the discussion with Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG), they were impressed by the company's achievements in renovating the Workers' Stadium in a short time despite the Covid-19. BCEG briefed them on its projects in Mongolia, such as the Peace Bridge and the central sewage treatment plant in Ulaanbaatar. The two sides agreed to intensify infrastructure cooperation.

The delegation's visit aims to implement the consensus reached between heads of state of China and Mongolia during their meeting last November on building a China-Mongolia community with a shared future, and set an example for sub-national interactions and closer cooperation in various fields. Going forward, the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office will make coordinated efforts to promote relations between the capital and its sister cities, pool high-end international resources, and turn such relations into a powerful source for Beijing's high-level opening-up and high-quality development.
