Panel Session on Resilient City and Smart Development Held Online

On November 19, 2021, the Panel Session on Resilient City and Smart Development under the 5th China-CEEC Capital Mayors Forum was held via video link. The forum was co-hosted by Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture and University of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Five experts from four countries delivered keynote speeches on urban governance, sharing their insights and practical experiences and providing references for better urban management as well as green and resilient urban development.

The forum attracted more than 200 participants from 39 universities and institutions in 15 countries. Five experts from home and abroad gave keynote presentations at the forum. Professor Zhang Jie, national master of engineering survey and design, and Dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, made a report on Sustainable Management of Historical and Cultural Cities in China Based on Historical Urban Landscape Method. He briefly reviewed the development of historical city protection in China and elaborated on how China has preserved its heritage and environment, inherited culture, and balanced urban protection and development through legal framework, professional and technological exploration and social participation amid rapid urbanization.

At the forum, the 5th BRAUIC Conference concluded successfully. At the conference, the Declaration on Development of the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium and the Five-Year Action Plan of the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (2021-2025) were officially released. The BRAUIC has established a chair in the CEE region to advance its development with regional features. In the future, it will continue to promote mutual recognition of academic credits and qualifications and joint degree-awarding among its members, contribute to preparation of establishing joint laboratories and research centres, and formulate the Belt and Road Architectural Cultural Heritage List and its databases.
