Recently, the “Colorful Beijing” culture and tourism promotion was held in Bangkok, Thailand. The event, co-hosted by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, AirAsia, and Beijing Daxing International Airport, aims to showcase Beijing’s rich and diverse cultural tourism resources to Thai tourists, supporting the city’s goal of building itself into a global tourist destination.
On March 1 of this year, the mutual visa exemption agreement between China and Thailand officially took effect. Thanks to this policy, tourism between the two countries has seen a significant increase over the past six months. Thailand is experiencing a surge in travel to China, with Beijing emerging as the ideal destination for Thai tourists to discover the wonders of China, given its historical heritage and modern urban landscape.
During the opening ceremony of the event, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism presented Beijing’s culture and tourism resources with the theme “Colorful Beijing”, highlighting the newly designated World Heritage Site Beijing Central Axis, well-developed commercial facilities, the popular “new China-Chic” trend and innovative designs among Thai youth, and the convenient international service in the city. The event featured exhibition areas for calligraphy and paper-cutting, as well as interactive experience zones and performances showcasing Beijing’s culture, which attracted many local residents. Additionally, AirAsia promoted its direct flights from Bangkok to Beijing Daxing International Airport, encouraging more Thai travelers to choose AirAsia to explore the endless wonders of Beijing. During the event, the latest information on tourism in Beijing was also provided to Thai travel agents, enabling them to better promote the city’s travel products.
Thailand is a key tourist market for Beijing in Asia. Since the implementation of the visa exemption policy, the influx of tourists from Thailand to Beijing has continued to rise. According to statistics from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, from January to July this year, there were 55,800 visitors from Thailand to Beijing, representing a remarkable year-on-year increase of 445.1%. This event aims to further invigorate Beijing’s inbound tourism market and attract more Thai travelers to the city.
