Recently, the Beijing-South Africa Business Cooperation Promotion Conference was successfully held in Johannesburg.
The conference was hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Beijing Sub-Council (CCPIT Beijing), and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Representative Office in South Africa, with strong support from Gauteng Department of Economic Development (GDED), Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and the Bank of China Johannesburg Branch. Beijing-based enterprises and associations such as BAIC Group, BBMG Corporation, Beijing Urban Construction Group, Xiaomi Technology, Goldwind, StarTimes, Dongsheng Group, Hugo Biotech, WeMed, Landpac, and E-Town • Chamber of Commerce for Technology and Science attended the event. Nearly 400 attendees were present, including representatives from Chinese and South African government departments, chambers of commerce, industry associations, and enterprises, as well as media reporters, creating a positive impact in local communities.
The conference featured four sessions, including the signing ceremony, economic and trade promotion, and enterprise negotiation, during which Beijing and South Africa reached a series of cooperative results and signed four agreements.
The CCPIT Beijing (Beijing Chamber of International Commerce) and Brand South Africa signed an agreement of intent on friendly cooperation, further expanding our international circle of friends and enhancing the service network for enterprises. Brand South Africa aims to build a positive and compelling brand image, and position South Africa as a competitive destination for investment, business, culture and tourism. Both sides will make concerted efforts to push forward the bilateral business ties.
Tangshan Jidong Cement Co., Ltd. signed a memorandum of cooperation with Women Investment Portfolio Holdings Proprietary Limited to jointly expand cement production scale in South Africa, facilitate the development of industrial chain of construction materials, and develop new energy and environmental protection business. Hugo Biotech signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Watchmaker Genomics, leveraging respective advantages in R&D to develop more agile, user-friendly, and cost-effective test products. The aim is to enhance prevention and control capacities against infectious diseases around the globe. Additionally, the two parties reached an intent of cooperation on promoting automated and intelligent solutions for pathogenic microorganisms independently developed by Hugo Biotech in Africa. WeMed and Lodox Systems signed a memorandum of cooperation, to jointly develop and promote high-quality medical imaging equipment. The cooperation will not only strengthen WeMed’s competitiveness in South Africa and its neighboring markets, but also facilitate mutual development in technological innovation and market expansion to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
The economic and trade promotion included business environment promotion and company presentation. CCPIT Beijing and Gauteng Provincial Investment Promotion Agency introduced the investment environment of and opportunities in Beijing and South Africa. BBMG Corporation, Beijing Urban Construction Group, Hugo Biotech, Landpac, and E-Town • Chamber of Commerce for Technology and Science respectively presented cooperation opportunities in green construction materials, equipment and cement industrial upgrades, cooperation potential in airports and rail transit, sequencing technology that improves diagnosis of infectious diseases, environmentally friendly, low-noise, and durable highway technologies, and intent of business cooperation among chambers of commerce.
At the conference, over 200 South African enterprises engaged in face-to-face discussions with their Beijing counterparts to explore cooperation and business opportunities for mutual development.
Liu Wei, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee attended the conference and delivered a speech.
