On March 27, Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing, met with Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, Thailand.

Yin stated that China and Thailand are close friends and neighbors. During the meeting last October, President Xi Jinping and Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who came to attend the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) in China, reached major consensus on building a China-Thailand community with a shared future. Beijing boasts a history of over three millennia as a city, and has been the capital of China for over 870 years. It has evolved into a modern cosmopolitan city, seamlessly blending history, culture and vibrant innovation. In recent years, Beijing has been building itself into a harmonious and livable world-class metropolis by adhering to its strategic positioning as the “four centers”, implementing the master plan, and taking solid steps toward high-quality development. Over the past 31 years since the twinning of Beijing and Bangkok, bilateral cooperation has yielded fruitful results across various domains. Beijing stands ready to work with Bangkok to fully implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, draw on each other’s good practices in urban governance, and expand economic and trade cooperation. More companies are encouraged to engage in cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. Furthermore, efforts will be made to intensify people-to-people exchanges in areas such as culture, tourism, and education, thus bringing the sister-city relationship to new heights.

Heaping praise on Beijing’s socio-economic success, Chadchart emphasized Bangkok’s willingness to contribute to the enduring China-Thailand friendship through sharing experience in urban governance, particularly in transportation and environmental protection, enhancing cooperation in areas including economy, trade, culture, green development, and sci-tech innovation, and facilitating cross-border travels.

Wisanu Subsompon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, and Mu Peng, Secretary General of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, attended the meeting.
