The 4th "Beijing - A Global City" Short Video Contest was officially launched at Tanko Moofland Park in Mentougou District on April 23. This year's contest is hosted by the Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, organized by CRI Online of China Media Group, and supervised by the Bureau of Public Information and Communication of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, and the Department of Press, Communication and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The 4th "Beijing - A Global City" Short Video Contest kicks off

The competition is a branded event that aims to promote Beijing's charm as a global city and adapt to the communication patterns in the new media era. All citizens, international friends who love Beijing, and organizations in the city are encouraged to submit their short videos that tell heartwarming stories of international exchanges and record memorable moments of friendly engagement. The entries are expected to depict the new look of Beijing as it improves its role as the center for international exchanges on the new path to Chinese modernization, as well as its image as a vibrant global city. They serve as a microcosm of the city's new developments and accomplishments.

Since its inception in 2021, the contest has been held for three consecutive sessions and is dedicated to documenting Beijing's international development achievements from a micro perspective. It has attracted nearly 700 outstanding entries from participants representing over 100 different countries and regions.

At the event

Similar to previous years, this year’s competition will collect short videos under five minutes in length through online channels and targeted groups. Both individuals and organizations are eligible to partake. Participants can post their videos on new media platforms such as Kuaishou, WeChat Channel, and Douyin, using the hashtag #Beijing - A Global City 2024#. They should also send the source files, titles and overviews of their works, and creator profiles to the organizing committee of the event at beijingvideos@cri.cn.

The submission deadline is November 15, 2024. Afterward, the contest host will organize experts to review the videos and honour winners with the first, second, and third prizes, as well as excellence awards. Winners will receive certificates and bonuses, and their videos will be displayed on various new media platforms and channels in China and other countries and regions.

During the launch ceremony, expert judges received certificates of appointment. The attendees included Fan Jianping, President of CRI Online; Justyna Szpakowska, a media planner from Poland; Liu Chen, a professor from Beijing Foreign Studies University; Zhang Huizi, the instructor of previous award-winning works; Bello, an award-winning representative; and Amjad, a foreign student. They all shared their insights on the topic of “Beijing - A Global City”.

At the event

This year’s contest features several new highlights. Foreign influencers based in Beijing will be invited to film creative, high-quality short videos, leveraging their expertise in overseas communication to enhance the contest’s influence and reach. Additionally, innovative AI-powered publicity activities will also be organized, combining Beijing’s international characteristics with AI technologies to release interactive products during key periods of the contest, thereby enhancing public participation and interaction.

Moreover, a variety of themed shooting events will be held throughout the contest, inviting foreign journalists, influencers and experts in Beijing, as well as students from China and abroad to witness Beijing's progress in becoming a center for international exchanges.
