In response to the Silk Road Community Building Initiative launched by China NGO Network for International Exchanges, Beijing NGOs have actively participated in the global battle against COVID-19 and provided help within their capacity to countries in need by donating anti-epidemic supplies and sharing prevention and control experience. To date, Beijing NGOs have provided aid to countries including Italy, Iran, Germany, Russia, Poland, Lebanon, Brazil, Argentina and Serbia. They not only brought urgently needed protective gears and daily necessities such as rice, flour and cooking oil, but also facilitated the sharing of experience via online meetings.

Priority was given to hard-hit countries. Beijing New Sunshine Charity Foundation and Beijing Jingnong Public Welfare Foundation donated nucleic acid test kits, bromine disinfectant, ventilators and oxygenerators to Iran. They set up a joint anti-epidemic platform to integrate resources and distribute them at more locations. Beijing Dragon Design Foundation initiated the Green Ribbon Initiative, which has been joined by 157 organizations and 295 international volunteers and donated anti-epidemic supplies to 12 countries as well as UN-Habitat. The practical needs of different recipient groups have been carefully reviewed. Beijing Peaceland Foundation donated epidemic prevention kits to refugee camps in Lebanon and held online meetings to facilitate the knowledge sharing with medical workers in Nepal and Lebanon. Beijing Dragon Design Foundation and All-China Journalists Association jointly donated materials to journalism organizations in seven countries, including Bulgaria and Serbia, to better protect frontline reporters. Beijing-based NGOs attached great importance to sister cities and provided targeted assistance. Beijing Municipal Women's Federation, Beijing Municipal Association for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese and Beijing NGO Network for International Exchanges donated anti-epidemic supplies to nine of Beijing’s sister cities, including Budapest, Jakarta, Minsk and Rio de Janeiro.
The practical assistance from Beijing NGOs was applauded by the recipients. Counselor Božović of the Serbian Embassy in China expressed his gratitude to donors to the Green Ribbon Initiative. Ghazi Sharif, Mayor of Faour town in Zahle of Lebanon, also thanked Chinese NGOs for their help.
