The preliminary review of the 2024 “Motherland Backing You Up” Consular Protection Sitcom Competition was successfully held on August 30, with six entries shortlisted to compete in the finals.

The competition is co-hosted by the Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, Capital Civic Enhancement Committee Office, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and Beijing Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, under the guidance of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since its launch on May 24, the competition has garnered widespread attention from various sectors, involving universities, enterprises, social groups, and individuals both in and outside Beijing.

Featuring prominent themes, rich content, and novel forms, the entries covered a wide range of consular protection stories, such as safe studying abroad, fraud prevention and anti-fraud measures, travel and work. Artistic performances were integrated into engaging scenarios to promote consular protection. The use of sitcoms, a popular art form, effectively conveyed consular protection stories and messages, making those entries memorable, easy to understand, and practical to the public.

During the preliminary review, experts from the Central Academy of Drama, Beijing People’s Art Theatre, China Foreign Affairs University, and Beijing Police College, evaluated the entries based on their topic selection, script writing, performance skills, and stage effects. After careful consideration, six outstanding works were selected for the finals.

Next, a panel of experts will provide intensive training for the finalists on consular protection knowledge, script performance, and stage presentation. This will deepen the finalists’ understanding of consular protection and enhance their stage performance skills, thereby elevating the professionalism and artistry of their works.
