Major Scenarios for Building Beijing into a Benchmark City for Digital Economy Announced

On December 7, the special event titled “Digital Economy Empowering Industrial Development” under the 24th Beijing-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium was held. At the event, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology announced two major scenarios for building Beijing into a benchmark city for global digital economy: the high-level demonstration area of autonomous driving and the big data exchange.

According to the overall framework of building Beijing into a global benchmark city for digital economy, the urban development scenarios will focus on the fundamental, comprehensive and core parts of the digital economy. Beijing will take the lead in creating an operating system of digital city, develop a supercomputing center, build the Beijing International Big Data Exchange, demonstrate the panoramic operation of high-level autonomous driving, build a cross-system digital medical demonstration center, and build digital communities.

At present, the first phrase of the high-level demonstration zone of autonomous driving has been completed, which can accommodate large-scale operation of high-level autonomous vehicles (above Level 4). Other application scenarios such as expressways for Level 4 autonomous taxis and autonomous logistics will be realized in the future. Efforts will also be made to develop concrete application scenarios such as intelligent connected minibuses and autonomous sweepers and pilot regulation on matters such as the determination of liability of intelligent connected vehicles in accidents.

The person in charge said that after 5 to 10 years of continuous effort, Beijing will lead global digital economy development in 6 fields, namely city-level digital transformation, distribution of data, incubation of emerging digital industries, original innovation in digital technology, Chinese solutions of digital governance and international cooperation and opening in digital economy.
