With the New Year and winter holidays approaching, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of people planning to travel abroad. To uphold the principle of “foreign affairs for the people” and strengthen preventive consular protection, Beijing Foreign Affairs Office has stepped up its outreach efforts through multiple channels, delivering thoughtful services to numerous potential travelers.

Targeted Risk Prevention

In recent years, incidents such as overseas telecom fraud, theft, robbery, and terrorist attacks have occurred from time to time. To protect the legitimate rights and interests of our citizens, corporate entities, and unincorporated organizations from being violated abroad, Beijing Foreign Affairs Office has invited experts from the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), Capital University of Economics and Business (CUEB), as well as overseas security agencies, to deliver specialized lectures on overseas safety. These sessions cover key topics such as traveling and studying abroad, pre-departure preparations for migrant workers, risk identification, mental preparedness, and coping strategies. The experts offered practical safety tips, advising students to avoid diploma mills, travelers to be aware of plane ticket scams, and migrant workers to steer clear of illegal agencies, preparing citizens for their overseas travels. The security experts also demonstrated how to respond to incidents such as theft, robbery, terrorist attacks, and hijacking, teaching attendees how to rescue themselves and others.

Diverse Forms with Broad Participation

To serve the diverse needs of different groups, Beijing Foreign Affairs Office has adopted various forms, including offline presentations, live-streaming, interactive games, consultations, and demonstrations, to ensure broader engagement and maximize the reach of its activities.

The consular protection campaign has reached local communities, with staff from the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office collaborating with community workers at Qinghe, Jianguomen, Taoranting, and Beiyuan subdistricts to distribute consular protection manuals to potential outbound travelers. Foreign-related enterprises were also invited to take part in improving overseas safety plans.

The consular protection campaign has entered schools, with the promotional poster and interactive zone set up at Beijing Etown Academy, guiding students to follow the “Overseas Service” mini-program.

The consular protection campaign has covered travel agencies, with representatives from BTG International Travel & Tours Luyuan Branch and Beijing Yong’an International Travel Service Co., Ltd. participating in the event. After taking photos at the consular protection-themed area, they shared updates and consular protection services on WeChat Moments.

The consular protection campaign has extended to enterprises, with staff from the Pinggu National Agricultural Science and Technology Park, Jingwa Center, among other enterprises participating both online and offline. Overseas security experts provided a comprehensive and multi-dimensional overview of common overseas safety risks faced by businesses, and answered questions raised by participants.

Practical Content with Positive Feedback

The diverse and engaging series of events earned widespread praise from participating citizens and institutions. Participants eagerly shared, “Through the consular protection activities, we have acquired valuable knowledge about overseas safety. We now feel more confident and secure as we plan for future overseas travels.”

“Prevention is the best protection.” Beijing Foreign Affairs Office will continue to prioritize the needs of citizens, actively advance preventive consular protection work, and make sustained efforts to ensure safety, thereby strengthening the support network for local enterprises and citizens “going global”.
