On September 25, the finals of the Motherland Backing You Up 2024 Consular Protection Sitcom Competition was held at Tongzhou District Culture Center in Beijing. The competition is co-hosted by the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office, Capital Civic Enhancement Committee Office, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and Beijing Overseas Chinese Affairs Office under the guidance of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Six finalist teams brought vivid, dynamic characters to life, presenting touching stories centered around consular protection. In the end, Going Home by China Foreign Affairs University won the first prize. Junior Diplomat by Beijing Tongzhou Yunhe Academy and Escape from the Boundless by Sichuan International Studies University earned second prizes. Set Sail for Escort by Beijing Taoranting, The Warmth of the Consulate by Beijing Zhanlan Road, and Escort of the Journey to France by Sichuan International Studies University secured third prizes.

Launched on May 24, this year’s competition, following the previous five successful editions, has attracted widespread attention from all sectors of society, with participation of schools, enterprises, various organizations, and individuals from Beijing and beyond. The entries, with powerful messages and rich content, conveyed consular protection knowledge from various perspectives such as consular assistance, overseas rescue, and fraud prevention. They focused on hot topics related to overseas security and illustrated a strong sense of mission and responsibility.
Audiences from universities, enterprises, public institutions, and communities watched the competition both online and offline. Many felt that it reflected the actual needs of the public. The lively format of sitcom helped the audience acquire overseas security knowledge while gaining deeper insights into consular protection work. The characters on the stage also highlighted the excellent qualities of consular protection workers who are proactive, responsible, and dedicated.
Expert Feedback at the Finals
This year marks the first anniversary of the official implementation of the Regulation of the People’s Republic of China on Consular Protection and Assistance, which is the first specialized legislation on consular protection and assistance in China. The Regulation, responding to the evolving demands of consular protection and assistance, is of great significance in this era. The Beijing Foreign Affairs Office has adhered to the top standards and comprehensively implemented the Regulation. It has made continuous efforts to innovate preventive consular protection practices and utilize platforms such as the consular protection sitcom competition to integrate publicity with artistic creation, delivering more solid outcomes.
