The “Beijing Foreign-Affairs Gifts” Solicitation was hosted by the Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality. It aims to encourage the creation of exquisite gifts, strengthen cultural communication, and leverage the unique role of foreign-affairs gifts to tell compelling stories about China and Beijing, showcasing Beijing’s international image as an open, inclusive, magnificent, and vibrant city to the world.
Representatives of winning organizations receive awards
Since its launch in October 2023, the event has garnered widespread attention. Over the course of eight months, more than 200 exceptional entries were received. The works exhibited a variety of expression techniques, encompassing diverse crafts such as paper sculpture and Beijing embroidery. They also demonstrated a multitude of creative ideas in various forms of expression like cultural relics and creative products, as well as arts and crafts ornaments. The themes were varied, with creations inspired by diverse angles including folk customs, urban architecture, and industrial design, vividly portraying the unique charm of Beijing’s blend of tradition and modernity.
Representatives of winning organizations share their creative insights
After multiple rounds of review by industry experts, a total of 20 outstanding works including the Endless Rivers and Mountains ornamental plate and the Beijing-themed Silk Scarf were awarded the title of “Beijing Foreign-Affairs Gift”. Notably, winning pieces such as the “Beijing Central Axis” ornament drew inspiration from the recently designated World Heritage site “Beijing Central Axis - A Building Ensemble Exhibiting the Ideal Order of the Chinese Capital”, earning unanimous recognition from the experts. It is known that all the winning entries will be included in Beijing’s Foreign-Affairs Gift Reserve Bank.
Experts comment on the winning entries
At the event, experts provided commentary on the winning entries. Expert representative Qian Zhe, a professor from the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University, highlighted the excellent overall quality of the entries, which reflect the capital’s development in the new era and depict the charm of urban culture. Wen Xinyu, a representative of the award-winning Beijing Gongmei Group, expressed that the event provided a good platform for enterprises. The company is committed to developing more products with distinctive Beijing characteristics and features of the times, while contributing to enhancing Beijing’s role as the center for international exchanges and effectively communicating compelling stories about Beijing to the world.
The Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality will continue to organize the “Beijing Foreign-Affairs Gifts” Solicitation, welcoming more outstanding entries that embody Beijing’s culture, characteristics, and contemporary features.
