On June 5, the 2024 Beijing CBD Forum kicked off under the theme “Dialogue with the World for Common Development”. Guided by the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), it is co-hosted by municipal-level authorities, including the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau, the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Local Financial Regulation, as well as the People’s Government of Chaoyang District.
The three-day forum features a “1+4+N” framework: one opening session, four themed sections on business, finance, culture, and consumption, along with multiple side activities. It presents a well-rounded picture of development achievements and experience, while offering opportunities for global discussions in areas such as green development and new quality productive forces. It is attended by numerous international organizations, chambers of commerce, and associations, as well as over a hundred regional heads of multinational companies.
The Beijing CBD serves as a ballast and stabilizer for Beijing’s economy, epitomizing the capital as a modern international metropolis.. In 2023, for example, the tax revenue in the CBD functional zone rose by 10% year on year to nearly 130 billion yuan, and the number of newly registered enterprises exceeded 12,000, a 20% increase from the previous year. The CBD is also home to 144 regional headquarters of multinational companies.
So far, the forum has yielded several significant outcomes. For instance, at the First Beijing CBD Multinational Corporations Conference, the inaugural event of the business section, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed an agreement with the Beijing CBD Management Committee on exploring zero-carbon CBD practices and establishing an innovation platform for green development. The Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) signed an agreement with the management committee on jointly encouraging companies and investors within the CBD to resolve cross-border disputes through international arbitration.
It is reported that the forum will be accompanied by diverse side activities, including a series of CBD special events, the Chaoyang Night special performance, and micro-performances at the Liangma River International Style Waterfront.
