The Dialogue on Conservation of World Heritage and Historic Cities was held at Di'anmen on the northern part of the Beijing Central Axis. More than 20 domestic and foreign experts shared their valuable experience in protecting historic cities and cultural heritage. Five special exhibitions including "Wanxiang Central Axis" Beijing Central Axis Digital Cultural Experience Exhibition were unveiled at the event.

At the opening ceremony, Li Qun, Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism and Head of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, said that the Party Leadership Group of the National Cultural Heritage Administration had decided to include the central axis as an application item for the title of World Heritage Site in 2024. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage, the 40th anniversary of China's establishment of the protection system of historical and cultural cities (in the same year Beijing became one of the first cities to win the title), and a critical year for the application of the Beijing Central Axis as a World Heritage Site. With the theme of "The Protection of Historical and Cultural Cities and World Heritage", the Dialogue included remarkable keynote speeches and roundtable forums.

Vice Mayor of Beijing, Tan Xuxiang, and Vice Chairman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Yang Yiwen, attended the event.
