Editor's note: Since the beginning of this year, centering around the preparation of the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Beijing's foreign affairs service has coordinated and mobilized strengths from all parties, and fully tapped into foreign affairs resources and channels (such as sister cities) to promote the Olympics, ensure foreign affairs protocol, improve language environment, and guarantee foreign-related security and services, contributing to the success of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
On December 1, the second offline themed shooting event of the "Beijing·A Global City" Short Video Contest sponsored by the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality and organized by Guangming Online was held at the New Shougang Park and Beijing Winter Olympic Park. More than 20 international students from 13 countries, including South Korea, Pakistan, Egypt, Morocco and Vanuatu, participated in the event. All of them currently study at universities in Beijing.
Wandering around the Beijing Winter Olympic Park, one could feel the strong Winter Olympic atmosphere. Various Winter Olympic elements can be seen everywhere. The heritage of the old Shougang and the vigor of the new Winter Olympics bring out the best in each other. The Big Air Shougang and the New Shougang Bridge enhance one another's beauty. The warm sun in winter adds a touch of bright color here.
Themed on the Winter Olympics, the second offline shooting event encouraged participants to focus on Beijing's role as a "dual Olympic city", use short videos to capture Beijing's Winter Olympic culture from ordinary people's perspective and present its unique and attractive features as a metropolis. International students visited the park and witnessed the perfect fusion of industrial heritage and Winter Olympic elements. At the office of the Organizing Committee of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, No.3 Blast Furnace and Big Air Shougang, they carefully listened to relevant introduction. Imagining the excitement of the Big Air events, they kept taking pictures and videos.
An international student from Mali said: "I am very excited to witness the development of the New Shougang Park. Through the visit, I learned what the Winter Olympics would be like. I believe Beijing will present the world a streamlined, safe and splendid Games."
An international student from Afghanistan said: "I came to Beijing in 2020. I am currently studying clinical medicine at Capital Medical University. I cherish the valuable opportunity to study in China. I am very happy to participate in the themed shooting event. I want to thank our university for giving us such a great opportunity."
Since its launch, the "Beijing·A Global City" Short Video Contest has received extensive attention from the public, institutions in Beijing and international friends who love the city. As of December 1, more than 170 entries have been received and the number of views of relevant videos has exceeded 9.4 million on Kuaishou. Xicheng, Shijingshan, Changping, and the Municipal Park Management Center helped further promote the contest and encouraged staff members to actively participate in the event. They made active efforts to promote Beijing as a center for international exchanges and highlight its image as a global city.
The second themed shooting event was organized by Beijing University of Technology, Capital Medical University and Shougang Group. Next, the host will organize two more shooting events with themes including "international medical care". In response to the enthusiasm of the citizens to participate in the contest, the host has extended the deadline (originally set on December 1) to the date when the contest award ceremony is announced.
