In order to consolidate Beijing's role as a center for international exchanges, and enhance the sense of belonging and identity of foreign talent in Beijing, Beijing Overseas Talents Center (BOTC) planned and organized a series of activities titled "Wonderful Life in Beijing" to show Beijing's traditional culture and art, and scientific and technological innovation achievements to foreign talent living and working in Beijing, and encourage them to understand and integrate into the city better.
On April 23rd, the first "Wonderful Life in Beijing" event took place at Laoshe Teahouse. Foreign friends who partook in the event upon invitation enjoyed tea of rich Beijing flavor and conversed in the classic Chinese ambience, appreciated Chinese traditional cultural and artistic performances on the spot, and excitedly exchanged their understanding of Chinese culture and feelings of working and living in Beijing.
Laoshe Teahouse has long been reputed to be a "Beijing-style Cultural Landmark". The day went on with a variety of splendid performances, including big drums with lights, diabolo shaking, disc turning, tea art performances, face changing, Peking Opera, jar carrying, and Chinese Kung Fu, etc. The bustling performances on the stage elicited unceasing applause from the scene. From time to time, the actors also invited foreigners from the audience to join them in the performance; some people took delight in Chinese magic and tea ceremony; some people learned about the Peking Opera Havoc in Heaven and savored the fun of holding the golden cudgel; others had the luck to try their long-cherished Chinese Kung Fu.
According to foreign participants in the serial activities, this event helped strengthen their understanding of Chinese culture, especially the Beijing culture, and enabled them to experience the authentic "Wonderful Life in Beijing". They hoped to better understand Beijing and engage more in the building and development of the city through diversified approaches.
