Maizidian Subdistrict in Chaoyang District is one of the most cosmopolitan neighborhoods in Beijing. It has six residential communities, home to nearly 10,000 foreigners hailing from 93 countries and regions. There are 15 embassies, 2 international organizations and a number of foreign institutions within the subdistrict.

During the COVID-19 epidemic, foreigners living in this area received considerate services from the neighborhood.

Multilingual posters on COVID-19

On February 6, Tan Linkun, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Chaoyang District, together with his colleagues, put up posters on the wall of Tian'an Haoyuan, an apartment building beside the Chaoyang Park, where many foreigners lived. The poster was a letter written in both English and Chinese with the title of A Letter to Non-Chinese Citizen Visitors in Beijing.

The subdistrict used diversified ways to timely inform foreign residents the epidemic prevention measures implemented in the community. Foreign residents may access, via Maizidian's official WeChat account (“Weimai m”), the bilingual registration form for travelers who have newly arrived in Beijing, and social workers with foreign language skills may also communicate with them effectively.

Shopping within the communities

To better implement epidemic prevention and control measures, administrative personnel of Maizidian visited apartment buildings where many foreigners live.

At Tian'an Haoyuan, a property management worker showed a foreign resident the daily disinfection records posted in the elevator lobby, which detailed when the disinfection was done, and by whom. The foreign resident praised this measure as reassuring.

There are also many foreigners living in Boya Garden. The store on Floor B1 of Building 3 offers a wide variety of food and other daily necessities. According to a property manager, there has been a notable increase in residents making purchase here. The store has a good stock of goods which are sold at prices that are at the same level as in large supermarkets.

Comment from a Foreign Resident in Maizidian

A foreign resident at Chaoyang Park Community: I didn't think it was a big deal at the beginning. It was only after community workers came to my home, explaining about the poster (A Letter to Foreign Residents in bilingual languages) that I began to pay close attention. After taking precautions according to their instructions, I feel much safer.

People need to come together in the fight against COVID-19. Next, Maizidian will strictly perform its responsibilities and go all out in the fight against COVID-19.
