On the afternoon of May 25, Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing, met with Javier Pérez-Tasso, Chief Executive Officer of the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT).

Yin said that, as the national financial management center, Beijing boasts abundant financial resources and is home to a large number of national financial authorities, headquarters of major financial institutions, and financial infrastructure platforms. The city has developed a sound landscape of two-way high-standard opening up and a high-quality business environment for the financial sector. With rich resources in education, science, technology, and talent, Beijing has robust R&D capabilities and strong advantages in cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and robotics, as well as a well-developed ecosystem for fintech innovation. He expressed the hope that SWIFT could seize the opportunities brought by Beijing’s financial opening up and technological innovation, further expand its presence in the city, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Beijing-based fintech enterprises, so as to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes and help build a more open, secure, and efficient global financial system. Beijing will continue to improve its business environment and provide high-quality services to SWIFT and other financial institutions in the city.

Tasso said that SWIFT attaches great importance to the Chinese market, with unwavering commitment to China and Beijing. SWIFT will leverage its strengths as an international platform to expand bilateral cooperation in areas such as financial innovation, promote product optimization and innovation in cross-border payment models, and better serve international financial exchanges and cooperation.
