On the morning of May 15, Yin Li, Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, met with Jane Fraser, Chair of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Citigroup.
Yin Li said that President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump held an important meeting that attracted worldwide attention, defining a new vision of building a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability. The two sides reached important consensus on maintaining stable economic and trade relations, expanding practical cooperation across various fields, and properly addressing each other’s concerns, providing strategic guidance for China-U.S. relations. Yin expressed Beijing’s readiness to work with all sectors in the U.S. to implement the important consensus reached by the two presidents, deepen practical cooperation across various fields, and add new impetus to promoting the stable, healthy and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations. He noted that Beijing serves as China’s political center, cultural center, center for international exchanges, and an international center for sci-tech innovation. The city has maintained steady economic and social development, with high-end, precision and cutting-edge industries building up strong momentum. It boasts a sound financial services system and an increasingly open business environment. At present, Beijing is making every effort to implement the 15th Five-Year Plan and moving faster toward its goal of leading the nation in basically realizing socialist modernization. It is hoped that Citigroup will continue increasing its investment in Beijing, work with relevant enterprises and institutions to seize the opportunities of high-standard opening up, and tap into the advantages of Beijing’s dynamic innovation ecosystem. Citigroup is encouraged to leverage the evolving demand for financial services by strengthening cooperation in cross-border finance, fintech and emerging financial services, and expanding its business in wealth management, digital industry financial services, cross-border investment and financing, and cross-border guarantee services. These efforts will continuously deepen international financial exchanges and cooperation, and attract more international enterprises and investors to start and grow their businesses in Beijing. Beijing will further optimize its business environment and provide convenient and high-quality services for enterprises operating in the city.
Fraser spoke highly of China’s remarkable development achievements and expressed strong confidence in China’s future prospects. She said that Citigroup will further deepen its presence in the Beijing market, drawing on its strengths and serving as a bridge to help more Beijing-based enterprises expand internationally and attract more enterprises to invest and develop in the city.
Beijing municipal leaders Zhao Lei and Sun Shuo attended the meeting.
