Recently, Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing, met with Khishgee Nyambaatar, Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Yin noted that in October last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh exchanged congratulatory messages on the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, agreeing to work together to ensure the steady and sustained growth of bilateral relations. At present, Beijing is implementing the guiding principles of the Central Urban Work Conference to develop a spatial structure comprised of “the core zone, the central area and the BMC; two axes, multiple new towns and an eco-zone” and improve functions of various areas. The city will continue to improve the “four services”, advance ecological conservation and adopt an integrated approach to transport management, exploring a new model of smart city development. The aim is to explore a pathway to modernizing the governance of a mega-city and move closer to the goal of building Beijing into a world-class metropolis that is harmonious and livable. As the capitals of China and Mongolia, Beijing and Ulaanbaatar play a leading and exemplary role in sub-national exchanges. Guided by the important consensus reached between the two heads of state, Beijing stands ready to deepen its sister-city ties with Ulaanbaatar by strengthening experience-sharing and cooperation in environmental protection, transport management, and smart and resilient city development, as well as by jointly hosting cultural and tourism events to enhance people-to-people exchanges. In so doing, the two cities will contribute. as national capitals, to the sustained, sound, and stable growth of China-Mongolia relations.
Nyambaatar noted that Mongolia and China are friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers. Ulaanbaatar is ready to strengthen exchanges with Beijing, expand economic and trade exchanges, and broaden cooperation in areas such as new town development, ecological protection, transportation management, disaster prevention and mitigation, as well as culture and education, so as to make greater contributions to the development of bilateral relations.
Zeng Jin, Secretary General of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, attended the meeting.
