Wei Xiaodong, Chairman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Honorary Director of the China Open Organizing Committee, met with Massimo Calvelli, CEO of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and his delegation on October 2.
Wei noted that the China Open and ATP, with a two-decade-long partnership, have co-witnessed the growth of tennis in China. Beijing boasts a large, vibrant tennis community, with a rapidly growing number of young players, presenting significant potential and market opportunities. Supported by the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the Beijing Municipal Government, the China Open continues to thrive, with many talented athletes emerging. Wei expressed his hope for deeper strategic cooperation between the China Open and ATP, aiming to host higher-level events. He also encouraged ATP to continue supporting the China Open, fostering the development of male professional tennis players in China and even in the Asia-Pacific region, while inspiring more young people to engage in tennis, thereby contributing to the long-term growth of the sport.
Calvelli commended the excellent organization and operation of the China Open, highlighting the emergence of outstanding Chinese tennis players. He expressed confidence in the Chinese tennis market and looked forward to strengthening cooperation with the China Open, hosting higher-level events, and enhancing the game’s influence, thus contributing to the development of tennis in China.
Zhang Jiaming, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Beijing Municipal Committee and Director of the China Open Organizing Committee, and Bai Xilin, Deputy Director of the China Open Organizing Committee, also attended the meeting.
