On August 15, 2024, President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Xi Jinping pointed out that both as major developing countries and important emerging markets, China and Brazil are good friends sharing the same goals and good partners moving forward together. Over the past half century since the establishment of diplomatic relations, no matter how the international landscape evolves, bilateral relations have always maintained steady growth with increasingly prominent overall, strategic and global significance. While promoting the development and revitalization of their respective countries, they have also played important roles in world peace, stability, prosperity and development.
Xi Jinping stressed that during President Lula's successful visit to China last year, they reached important common understandings on guiding and opening up new prospects in China-Brazil relations in the new era. Taking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil as a new starting point, the Chinese side is ready to make sustained efforts with the Brazilian side to seek closer synergy between their development strategies, deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two sides, add new dimensions to China-Brazil relations, and join hands to promote the building of a China-Brazil community with a shared future.
Lula said, over the past half century, the Brazil-China friendship has been continuously strengthened and cooperation has become increasingly diversified. At present, the two countries have maintained cooperation in various fields and at all levels to jointly build a more prosperous, peaceful and just world. Brazil-China relations are increasingly important for building a multipolar order as well as more just and effective global governance, and play an underpinning role in the stability and predictability of the two countries and the world. In the next 50 years of bilateral relations, the two sides will open up a new path together and build a bright shared future.
