On the morning of May 22, Li Xiuling, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress, met with Chayada Vipattipumiprates, First Vice-Chairman of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council.

Li said that China and Thailand are close and friendly neighbors, with deep-rooted friendship between the two peoples. The two countries have established regular exchange mechanisms at all levels and in various fields. During President Xi Jinping’s visit to Thailand in November 2022, and his meeting with Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who came to China for the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) last October, the two heads of state reached a significant consensus on further promoting the China-Thailand community with a shared future. As the capitals of the two countries, Beijing and Bangkok have the responsibility to play a leading and exemplary role in implementing this consensus and enhancing the friendship between the two peoples. As a local legislature, the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress stands ready to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Bangkok Metropolitan Council in such fields as local legislation, and enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples through more people-to-people exchanges, thus contributing to the long-term healthy and stable development of the relations between the two countries.

Acknowledging the long-standing and deep-rooted friendship between the Thai and Chinese peoples, Chayada expressed her willingness to promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries’ local legislatures, in order to consolidate the bilateral friendly relations and enhance the well-being of both peoples.

Wang Jianzhong, Secretary General of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress, attended the meeting.
