Yin Li, Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, met with Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on the morning of June 17.
After extending welcome to Sobyanin and his delegation, Yin noted that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. The joint statement signed by President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin last month has further strengthened the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era, opening up a new chapter for bilateral relations. Beijing and Moscow, as the respective capitals of China and Russia, have witnessed the evolution of China-Russia relations and achieved fruitful cooperation results in economy, society, urban governance, and other areas. As the political, cultural, international exchange, and innovation center of China, Beijing boasts a profound history and culture, abundant educational and technological talent, ever-improving living standards and frequent international exchanges. This means enormous potential for the two cities to strengthen cooperation and exchange. As subnational exchange underpins the relations between the two countries, Beijing is willing to work with Moscow to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and further cooperation and exchange, especially in intergovernmental, economic and trade, sci-tech innovation and people-to-people areas. Beijing also stands ready to strengthen mutual learning of urban planning, construction and management. These efforts, as a result, will further enhance the friendship of the two peoples and promote the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era.
Sobyanin highly praised the long-standing sister-city relations featuring mutual support and mutually beneficial cooperation. He noted that with so much shared interests, Moscow is ready to strengthen the exchange and cooperation with Beijing to achieve even greater results in areas such as economy and trade, transportation, education, healthcare, tourism, and smart city development.
Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov, Deputy Mayors of Moscow Maksim Liksutov and Vladimir Yefimov, as well as leaders of Beijing Municipality Xia Linmao and Zhao Lei, attended the meeting.
