On July 4, the Chinese classical dance show “Beauty Beyond Words” was presented at the National Theater in Bucharest, Romania’s capital. The performance was attended by about 900 people, including ambassadors to Romania and representatives from more than 20 countries, Romanian government officials, and local residents.
The performers from the Beijing Dance Academy performed solo dance Cloud Fairy and Flying Apsaras, pas de deux Butterfly Lovers and Farewell at the Pavilion, and group dance Peonies on the Hairpins, etc. Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese culture, these dance works demonstrated the unique charm of Chinese dance art, winning bursts of applause from the audience.
Irina Sanda Marin Cajal, Deputy State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Culture, spoke highly of the performance and highlighted dynamic cultural exchanges between China and Romania, including activities in various areas including opera, movie and music. She looked forward to deepening cultural cooperation between the two countries to jointly promote bilateral cultural relations.
During his speech, Han Chunlin, Chinese Ambassador to Romania, said that cultural exchanges are concrete actions to facilitate dialogue among civilizations. The event aimed to immerse Romanian audiences in the rich traditions and contemporary expressions of Chinese culture through dance, an art that transcends borders and languages. Ambassador Han expressed his belief that this show would bring closer the hearts of people from different countries.
According to the audience Octavia, Chinese classical dance shares similarities with ballet but is more diversified. “The show not only deepened our understanding of Chinese culture, but also sparked my interest in visiting China.”
The performance was co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Romania and the Romanian Ministry of Culture, as part of the efforts to celebrate the 75th anniversary of China-Romania diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of the comprehensive friendly and cooperative partnership between the two countries.
