At the invitation of Beijing, Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, visited Beijing to participate in a series of activities commemorating the 30th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Beijing and Hanoi. The aim of the visit is to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two cities in areas such as inter-party interactions, economy and trade, and culture.
Since the establishment of friendly ties in 1994, Beijing and Hanoi have maintained close cooperation in various fields, including economy and trade, culture, and urban governance. In recent years, guided by head-of-state diplomacy between China and Vietnam, relations between the two capitals have entered a fast track of development. In 2023, the two cities signed six memorandums of understanding (MOUs) to intensify cooperation in areas such as urban governance and official training.
During Nguyen’s visit, the two cities co-hosted a special cultural performance entitled “Permanent Friendship” to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their sister city relationship. This marked the first occasion of an official Hanoi art troupe performing in Beijing. The audience were treated to a unique audio-visual cultural feast with national characteristics, jointly performed by Chinese and Vietnamese artists.
In addition, as two ancient capitals with profound history and culture, Beijing and Hanoi jointly organized a photo exhibition to showcase Hanoi’s cultural heritage entitled “Exhibition Thăng Long - Hà Nội Where Heritage Values Are Linked and Converge”. The exhibition contributed to deeper understanding and friendship between the people of the two capitals.
