Nicușor Dan, an independent candidate supported by Romania's ruling National Liberal Party and the Save Romania Union, was elected Mayor of Bucharest, capital city of Romania, at the election held on September 27 with 42.81% of the votes.

A mathematician and activist, Nicușor Dan ran for mayorship for the third time. During the campaign, he pledged to crack down hard upon government corruption, raise the transparency of the exercise of government power, attract EU investment in city development, and improve public transit.
