Chu Ngoc Anh, member of the 12th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee, was elected Chairman (equivalent to mayor) of the Hanoi Municipal People's Committee at the 16th session of Hanoi People's Council on September 25. Nguyen Duc Chung was dismissed from the post.

Chu Ngoc Anh, born on June 17, 1965 in Ba Vi District of Hanoi, Vietnam, has served as Minister of Science and Technology and Chairman of Phu Tho Province People's Committee, among other positions.

Beijing and Hanoi became sister cities in October 1994. Since then, relations between the two cities have been developing smoothly, with deepening exchanges and cooperation in culture, tourism and other fields.
