On March 30, students of the Experimental Section of the Primary School Attached to Beijing No.109 Middle School wrote a letter to Spanish children to express their support for the country's fight against COVID-19.
The text of the letter is as follows:
Dear Spanish friends!
We are students at the Experimental Section of the Primary School Attached to Beijing No.109 Middle School. Since 2013, our school has opened a compulsory course on Spanish. Apart from a knowledge of the Spanish language and culture, we are also taught by our teacher that Beijing has been twinned with both the city of Madrid and the Autonomous Community of Madrid. For this reason, Spain, a country that is thousands of miles away from China, holds a special place in our hearts.
What happened in China in this Spring Festival is unforgettable for us all. COVID-19 ruthlessly disrupted our lives. To contain the rapid spread of COVID-19, we have to stay at home. The epidemic sometimes filled us with fear and anxiety. Fortunately, we have a great many healthcare professionals and other brave people who would risk their lives to protect us from the virus. Having got their bags packed and waved goodbye to their families, they headed to the frontline of the fight against COVID-19. Their smile, expertise and tremendous courage have given us strength, dispelled our fear, and lit up our lives like sunshine. After two months of hard work, China has secured a firm grip on the epidemic. With the help from our teachers and parents, we have been able to stay on task when studying from home.
Recently, we have read headlines about how COVID-19 spread across the world, producing a profound impact on countries including yours. We are very worried about you. As the epidemic is wreaking havoc, you have to stay at home like us, right?
Dear friends, don't be afraid. Doctors, teachers, and parents have told us that, as long as we are united and take protective measures, we will beat the virus, and the victory will come. There is no need to panic since we have loving families, and people who work on the frontline to protect us from the virus. We need to cherish every day, and make the most of the time we have, and keep studying and exercising.
Before the winter vacation, we recorded a song Feliz año nuevo y olé to celebrate the New Year. It says, “Everything that is bad will stay in the past, and a new life will come eventually!” We want to dedicate this song to you. We believe soon we will beat the virus and meet our dear teachers and classmates at school. Stay strong, Spain! Stay strong, friends! We will stand by you in the fight against the epidemic.
