On March 12, Mayor Chen Jining sent messages of sympathy to leaders of Beijing's sister cities, including Virginia Raggi, Mayor of Rome, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid, and Valérie Pécresse, President of the Paris Region. Chen expressed his support for the cities’ fight against the epidemic. He said, the city of Beijing is ready to work more closely with them, sharing effective prevention measures and offering assistance within its capacity.

The three sister cities have all maintained a close tie with Beijing, and have provided support for Beijing in various ways after the COVID-19 outbreak in China. President Valérie Pécresse and Mayor Virginia Raggi tweeted about their appreciation for Beijing's anti-epidemic efforts. Mayor Raggi dined at a local Chinese restaurant as a way of expressing her support for the Chinese communities in Rome.
