On July 29, Beijing-based technology company WeRide, in partnership with Uber, announced a collaboration with Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) to officially launch Robotaxi services on Al Reem and Al Maryah Islands.

Since initiating Robotaxi services in Abu Dhabi in December 2024 in cooperation with Uber, WeRide’s local Robotaxi fleet has grown threefold. This latest service expansion is expected to double ride orders, which now covers nearly half of Abu Dhabi’s core areas, including Al Reem Island, Al Maryah Island, Yas Island, Saadiyat Island, and highway routes to and from Zayed International Airport.

Looking ahead, the ITC plans to further expand autonomous driving services to support Abu Dhabi’s strategic vision to make 25% of trips in the emirate rely on smart transport by 2040. As part of Abu Dhabi’s smart transport strategy, this collaboration will reinforce the city’s position as a hub for smart mobility and innovation, create a sustainable environment for smart mobility, and deliver high-quality services to residents and visitors.
