“Covering all dimensions of urban development, the report presents a detailed overview of past achievements and future visions. The sections on people’s wellbeing are particularly impressive, reflecting a solemn commitment to the public,” remarked Pablo Arriarán, Ambassador of Chile to China, after attending the deliberation of the Report on the Work of the Beijing Municipal Government on the morning of January 25. He noted that the report bears on the daily lives of every Beijing resident. Ambassador Arriarán also paid special attention to the part on technological innovation. “We are working to facilitate exchanges between Chilean start-ups and entrepreneurs and their Beijing counterparts, to help them explore potential partnerships. The relevant initiatives outlined in the report are encouraging,” he said.

A total of 68 diplomats from 51 embassies in China, representing nations such as Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Ethiopia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the United States, and Chile, attended the opening of the Fourth Session of the Sixteenth Beijing Municipal People’s Congress, to gain an in-depth and comprehensive understanding of Beijing’s development. Through the government work report, they developed a broader picture of Beijing’s socio-economic achievements in 2025, the objectives and tasks for the 15th Five-Year Plan period, and work priorities for 2026. The diplomats said that having witnessed Beijing’s remarkable progress in education, healthcare, ecological conservation, and technological innovation, they look forward to expanding cooperation with Beijing in these fields.
The event was covered by 13 foreign media outlets, including Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao and Dubai’s China Arab TV, as well as a number of Hong Kong media outlets. Specifically, Lianhe Zaobao focused on Beijing’s plan to develop trillion-yuan industrial clusters in artificial intelligence (AI) and other sectors over the next five years, as well as the city’s projected 5% GDP growth for 2026. Hong Kong’s Economic Herald zeroed in on Beijing’s consumption stimulus package in 2026. Ta Kung Pao highlighted the all-round cooperation mechanisms between Beijing and Hong Kong, as well as between Beijing and Macao, offering a multifaceted analysis of Beijing’s development opportunities in such areas as technological innovation, financial collaboration, overseas business expansion, and cultural promotion.
