The 2024 BRICS Civil Forum was held in Moscow, Russia, from July 3 to 4. The Beijing International Exchange Association was invited to attend the forum and share experience and practices of Beijing’s non-governmental organizations in engaging in global governance and upholding common values.
Themed “The Right to Development: Equality, Equity, and Fairness”, the 2024 BRICS Civil Forum was hosted by Russia to facilitate dialogue between civil society and the governments of BRICS members. A total of nine working groups were set up to address the concerns of BRICS nations, attracting over two hundred BRICS representatives.
Dr. Guo Jieni, Secretary General of Beijing International Exchange Association, served as Co-Chair of the Vision 2050 Working Group: Values and Rights of Peoples. Together with representatives from civil society in BRICS countries, she discussed strategies for promoting fairness among nations and achieving sustainable development goals. Drawing on the development of social organizations in Beijing, Dr. Guo delivered a speech titled “Practices & Experiences: How Chinese Civil Society Engages in Global Governance and Uphold Common Values”. She elaborated on the common values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy and freedom that China has always pursued, sharing practical experience with BRICS countries in global governance.
As an integral part of the BRICS cooperation mechanism, the BRICS Civil Forum serves as an example of the BRICS dual-track diplomacy. The forum is committed to strengthening civil society exchanges and cooperation among BRICS countries for common development. With nine successful editions since 2015, the forum has played a key role in promoting people-to-people exchanges, cultural interactions, and economic cooperation among BRICS nations.
