The Motherland Backing You Up 2023 Consular Protection Sitcom Competition was officially launched on May 12 at the China Soong Ching Ling Science & Culture Centre for Young People. The competition was co-hosted by Foreign Affairs Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government, Office of Beijing Civility Enhancement Committee, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government, and Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League. It was guided by the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This competition aims to educate the general public about consular protection and enhance their awareness and ability to safeguard themselves while travelling abroad by showcasing aesthetically pleasing and engaging sitcom performances. It also demonstrated the consular officials' original aspiration and strong sense of responsibility in the new era through heartfelt performances of consular protection stories, providing warmth to the public.
As an important practice of the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office in implementing the theoretical study program for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the competition was conducted in accordance with the philosophy of diplomacy for the people. It provided participating teams with a large number of cases and professional guidance, utilizing the systematic promotion and education efforts on consular protection and contributing to the creation of more excellent sitcoms. This branded event conveyed confidence, warmth, and cohesion, and is a true testament to the effectiveness of the thematic study program.
Gu Jingqi, Consul General of the Department of Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highly praised the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office for carrying out proactive consular protection successfully. He encouraged the public and relevant organizations to actively participate in the sitcom competition, which would provide them with valuable knowledge on consular protection, and allow them to experience the compassionate nature of consular protection, so as to keep in mind that prevention is the most effective form of protection.
At the launch event, the hosts presented letters of appointment to the expert judges. Following this, the experts delivered lectures on consular protection sitcoms, accompanied by some excellent examples. They engaged with the audience to impart knowledge on consular protection and techniques for creating sitcoms.
The competition consists of four stages: solicitation, review, training, and finals. Following expert review, six submissions will progress to the finals, where one first prize, two second prizes, and three third prizes will be awarded.
