On June 30, the Beijing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office held the eighth consular protection monthly lecture of 2021 at Beiyuan sub-district Party-masses service center in Tongzhou district. More than 100 people, including residents, representatives of Party members from enterprises and community staff joined the lecture.

The activities included lectures, scenario simulation and after-class discussions. By using specific cases, experts thoroughly explained what consular protection is about, how to solicit help overseas and so on. They also conducted personal protection skills simulation exercises with the audience to help them identify risks and learn how to deal with them correctly. In particular, the experts warned that we still face grave challenges in epidemic prevention and control, and that under no circumstance should we lower our guard or become careless, nor should we travel for unnecessary or non-urgent purposes at home or abroad. 

What's more, a short video named "Getting to Know Consular Protection in 3 Minutes" was played on site and exhibition boards were also set up in a display area to provide more detailed information, including consular protection, overseas safety, and science-based epidemic prevention, which helped people deepen their understanding of consular protection.

After the lecture, three resident representatives were invited to serve as "community promoter of consular protection". They believed that the lecture not only equipped people with overseas safety knowledge and personal protection skills but also answered questions that people were concerned about. They also said that it was their great honor to serve as consular protection promoters and would lead by example. In the future, they would take concrete actions to spread knowledge about consular protection and help people improve their safety awareness and risk prevention ability. Ultimately, they would strive to become an example of civility for traveling abroad.

The Party-masses service center is at the frontline of grassroots Party building, and it plays a significant role in serving the people more closely. It was the first time that the consular protection monthly lecture was held in a community Party-masses service center, aiming at doing practical things for the people. It gives full play to the role of Party-masses service center as a bond linking the Party with the people, identifying people’s needs, and spreading the knowledge of consular protection.
