Recently, Beijing Foreign Affairs Office successfully held the Fifth Consular Protection Monthly Lecture at Beijing No. 35 High School, offering an “interactive class on consular protection” to over 300 students planning to study abroad. In line with the requirements for regular pandemic prevention and control, the lecture was held both online and offline in lively and diverse forms, with the aim of helping students get a thorough understanding of the complicated and severe pandemic abroad and improve their safety awareness and skills to prevent and control risks.

Themed “Consular Protection Helps Students Stay Safe Abroad”, the activity briefed them on consular protection, proper pandemic prevention and control measures, and emergency response in various forms such as lectures, mock drills, interactions and communications, as well as leaflets. These gave students an idea of infection, being stranded and other risks when studying abroad, helping them make proper arrangements for overseas study and enhance their abilities to stay safe, protect their own rights and interests, and take precautions against the pandemic.
Experts from the Overseas Study Service branch of China Education Association for International Exchange expounded on the safety and potential risks in main destinations for overseas study such as the United States and Britain amid the pandemic. They not only explained the relevant concepts, gave examples and communicated with the students and parents but also taught them some necessary emergency response skills. The students were actively engaged in the informative and lively class.

Many students and parents said that the activity enabled them to get a better understanding of the pandemic outside of the Chinese mainland, and they might reconsider their plan to study overseas. Additionally, they learned some useful and practical knowledge and skills and benefited a lot from the activity.
In the future, Beijing Foreign Affairs Office will continue to bring a variety of consular protection-themed activities to schools and provide preventive consular protection for aspirants for overseas study from Beijing.
