On June 2, Beijing launched China’s first online departure tax refund store, available on the JD App. Overseas travelers can purchase products carrying a dedicated “departure tax refund” label and obtain electronic refund application forms.

The online departure tax refund store was jointly developed by the Beijing Municipal Tax Service, Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau and relevant departments, in collaboration with JD Group, and launched on the JD App. Overseas travelers only need to choose products carrying a dedicated “departure tax refund” label, and enter required information such as their travel document numbers and dates of entry at checkout. The system will automatically generate an electronic refund application form. This model breaks the geographical, scenario-based and time constraints of tax refund shopping, enabling overseas travelers to purchase tax-refund-eligible products by mobile phone at any time while in China. Automatic online generation of tax refund documents greatly simplifies the procedures and improves the shopping experience.

According to a JD executive in charge of the platform’s departure tax refund business, the online store currently offers nearly 300 subcategories across six major product segments, including mobile communications, digital products, computers and office supplies, and home appliances. The product lineup covers well-known international brands and trending domestic goods, meeting the diverse shopping needs of overseas travelers. Going forward, the platform will continue to expand the lineup of tax-refund-eligible products, with a focus on quality Chinese goods, including time-honored brands, China-made smart technology products, and cultural and creative products inspired by intangible cultural heritage, allowing overseas travelers to access premium Chinese products online.
