1,400 volunteers from 25 universities present the charm of youth
Before and during the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, a total of 1,400 volunteers from 25 universities, including Tsinghua University and Peking University, were selected to fill 101 positions across 17 groups, offering a wide range of services including consultation, guidance, translation, media support, and transportation. On October 10, the initial group of volunteers began their work at the China National Convention Center, where they were responsible for forum-related affairs such as venue use, material distribution, and statistical work.
Foreign language proficiency is a key requirement for volunteers at this year’s forum. It is noted that all 1,400 volunteers are proficient in English, with some skilled in two or more foreign languages. To meet the demand for less common languages, targeted recruitment was conducted at universities specializing in foreign languages, such as Beijing Foreign Studies University and Beijing International Studies University. As a result, this year's volunteers are capable of offering services in 15 different languages.
As ambassadors for exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, the volunteers for this forum were mostly born in the 2000s. Notably, many of them have previously volunteered at major events, such as the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Their extensive experience will be utilized to ensure the success of the forum. By late September, all volunteers had completed two rounds of training, which covered basic knowledge and practical skills, with a focus on personal growth and hands-on experience. Recently, the volunteer working group conducted position-specific training and orientation, including venue inspections and simulation drills to ensure personnel placement.
This year, volunteers continue to uphold the tradition of wearing Chinese-style attire, highlighting the contemporary image of Chinese youth. This endeavor aims to better showcase Beijing's excellent volunteer services at a global stage.
