On April 17, journalists from eight countries participating in an APEC-themed training program visited Huairou District. From the Yanqi Lake International Conference Resort, a venue that has witnessed landmark moments of China’s major-country diplomacy, to the Huairou Science City, a hub of cutting-edge scientific and technological innovation, foreign journalists had an immersive experience of the vibrant innovation and openness of the two destinations.

Following a route lined with green mountains and clear waters, the foreign journalists first arrived at the APEC Exhibition Center. With nearly 500 precious exhibits and a wealth of photos and videos, the center offers a vivid record of the 2014 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. At the Yanqi Lake International Conference Center, the journalists visited signature venues including Jixian Hall, Hongyan Hall, and the South Square, and were briefed on the services and support for major events. The magnificent Chinese-style architecture and many details of the venue arrangements impressed the visitors, many of whom took out their phones to snap photos.

The Huairou Science City Government Service E-Station and the Yanqi International Talent Service Hub cover more than 60 frequently requested services that can be handled on a one-stop basis, as well as over 1,700 services available online. The practice of “letting data do more work and applicants make fewer trips” won wide praise from the visitors. One journalist remarked, “You have provided researchers with a first-class environment for entrepreneurship. It must be very convenient and comfortable to work and live here. This comprehensive service system is well worth learning from.”

The two cutting-edge technology companies journalists visited afterwards further impressed them with the vitality of Huairou Science City. At Beijing Guangzhui Interactive Technology Co., Ltd., a fascinating robot performance drew the visitors’ attention. The rich facial expressions of the high-degree-of-freedom bionic emotional robot made the foreign journalists feel as if science fiction had become reality. “Scenes we used to see only in sci-fi films have become real here,” one of them said. Multifield Low-Temperature Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. showcased its advanced technologies in nano-motion control for extreme environments. The foreign journalists had in-depth exchanges with the company’s executives and team members, and exchanged contact information to learn more about related technologies and products.
