To support Beijing’s role as a center for international exchanges, improve travel services for foreign nationals in Beijing, and enhance the city’s international service capacity, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, Beijing Municipal Administration of Government Services and Data Management, Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, and Beijing Municipal Education Commission have jointly compiled the Beijing English Map (2025 Edition). The map has been updated with information through late 2025. Compared with the 2024 edition, it offers more diverse use cases and richer information, and gives greater emphasis on historical and cultural characteristics.
More Diverse Application Scenarios
Building on the six major categories and 11 thematic subcategories in the 2024 English map, the 2025 edition expands to nine major categories and 19 subcategories, covering history and culture, currency exchange, tax refund, ID services & accommodation registration, SIM card services, transit card services, self-drive, tourist attractions, and consumption scenarios. The map addresses a full range of daily living and consumption needs for foreign nationals, including document processing, card services, travel, sightseeing and leisure.
Richer Information
The map now features richer thematic content, including the tax refund process, contact numbers for driver’s license exchange and car rental service outlets, star ratings of hotels, and opening hours of parks and scenic areas. These updates make services in Beijing more accessible and user-friendly for foreign nationals.
More Distinctive Historical and Cultural Features
The map highlights Beijing’s cultural heritage sites, major historical and cultural landmarks, traditional alleyways and hutongs, and time-honored brands. It presents Beijing as a diverse, multidimensional, open and inclusive city where ancient heritage and modern life blend seamlessly, serving as an effective medium for telling Beijing’s story in the new era and promoting the city’s history and culture globally.

History and Culture: The map marks 1,111 alleyways and hutongs included in the List of Traditional Geographical Names under Protection, allowing users to search for information such as their historical periods and the origins of their names.
Currency Exchange: The map includes 89 self-service foreign currency exchange machines, mainly located in Beijing’s six urban districts and the two major international airports. These machines offer foreign visitors cash exchange services for more than ten major currencies, including the US dollar, British pound, Japanese yen, Hong Kong dollar, euro, Australian dollar, and Canadian dollar, helping meet their cash payment needs in Beijing.
Tax Refund: The map features 23 large stores piloting the instant tax refund service, mainly located in Beijing’s six urban districts and two major international airports. It accurately marks their locations and provides contact numbers and refund procedures, enabling foreign visitors to enjoy convenient on-site tax refund services in Beijing.
