On March 10, 2026, the International Esports Committee (Belgium) Beijing Office was officially established in the Headquarters Cluster of International Science and Technology Organizations in Chaoyang District, Beijing.
Founded in 2020 by a decree signed by the King of Belgium, the International Esports Committee (IEC) is headquartered in Brussels, the seat of the European Union. It is an international non-governmental organization initiated by global dignitaries including Irina Bokova, former Director-General of UNESCO. The organization is committed to implementing the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and promoting the integration of esports with education, technology, and culture.
With the opening of its Beijing Office, the IEC will adopt a dual-headquarters operation model, with Brussels as its registered headquarters and Beijing as its operational headquarters. According to the plan, the functions of the IEC Secretariat, including its Asia-Pacific arm, will be gradually transferred to the Beijing Office, making Beijing the global operational hub for the IEC.
The head of the IEC Beijing Office stated that locating in the Headquarters Cluster of International Science and Technology Organizations will provide the IEC with an enabling platform to better develop international esports standards, promote green esports, and advance the Digital Silk Road initiative. The IEC China Committee (CEC) will be permanently based in the Beijing Office, focusing on three key areas—academic research, public services, and industrial development. By engaging in activities such as building a big data framework for esports, offering professional certification, and supporting industry regulation and arbitration, the committee aims to contribute to the sound, well-regulated, and international development of China’s esports industry.
