Recently, the Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality hosted the 2025 Beijing Training Program on Foreign Affairs Translation and Foreign Language Services, bringing together over 300 participants from various districts and departments across the city, as well as foreign affairs departments from Tianjin and Hebei.

Gear Toward International Exchanges
The programincluded an interpretation of the Regulations of Beijing Municipality on Fostering A More International Language Environment from both policy and implementation perspectives. It focused on four key areas—foreign language services in public service, standardization of foreign-language signs, public engagementexpansion, and workforce enhancement—to provide guidance for improving the city’s international language environment across various fields. The program further enhanced participants’ understanding of standards for urban international language services, laying a solid foundation for optimizing international services in their respective areas.

Focus onPractical Needs
The training was closely tailored to real-world work scenarios. Given that most participants were from key government service departmentsand major venues for foreign affairs reception—particularly those from municipal museums and parks dedicated to promoting Beijing’s history and culture—representative language materials were collected in advance from their respective institutions and analyzed through case studies. The courses focused on the most pressing needs in daily work, including the use of foreign languages in public policy and cross-cultural communication.

Keep Pace with Development Trends
Keeping pace with development trends in the translation industry, the program included a dedicated course on AI-assisted translation. With a practice-oriented approach, instructors guided participants through the use of large language models for different types of translation tasks, helping them leverage technology to enhance both accuracy and efficiency of their work.
