To further enhance meticulous services for visitors, the Summer Palace launched a trial operation of an intelligent translation intercom system with handheld dual-screen translation devices on June 10 this year. These tools were officially put into full use on July 7, harnessing technology to break down language barriers.
The Summer Palace is now equipped with a total of 51 AI translation devices. At the East Palace Gate, North Palace Gate, and New Palace Gate, “primary and secondary AI translation units” enable real-time translation between staff inside the service windows and visitors outside. In 48 other locations, including tourist service centers and boat docks, “handheld AI translation devices” are available to meet mobile and temporary translation needs. These AI devices support 75 languages and accents, provide instant translation upon activation, and have a battery life of 7 - 8 hours, sufficient for a full day’s use.
At the East Palace Gate service window, two visitors from Brazil used the AI translation device to consult with staff, quickly receiving satisfactory answers. A French visitor remarked through the device, “This is so convenient! It’s one of the most practical service tools I’ve ever seen at a scenic spot.”
