Recently, the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) officially granted Special Consultative Status to the China Health Charity Foundation (CHCF) and the China International Association for Promotion of Science and Technology (CIAPST). And now there are 26 Beijing-based organizations holding ECOSOC consultative status, including both social organizations and national industry associations and chambers of commerce decoupled from administrative organs.
ECOSOC consultative status represents a formal relationship between the UN and social organizations and is an important recognition of their role by the UN. Beijing’s social organizations have been actively applying for this status, going global to share China’s development achievements on multilateral platforms with their own voice.
Since the beginning of this year, several Beijing-based social organizations, including the Beijing NGO Association for International Exchanges, Beijing Guangping Charity Foundation, Beijing Crafts Council, and Beijing Changer Education Foundation, have actively participated in international conferences under the UN framework, such as the Human Rights Council, the Commission on the Status of Women, and the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. Leveraging their consultative status, these organizations have shared China’s wisdom and Beijing’s approach to global challenges, contributing their insights to the advancement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
