On April 22, 2025, the Foreign Diplomats Experiencing Beijing: Haidian District Special Event was successfully held. The event was co-hosted by the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office and the Haidian District People’s Government. A total of 35 diplomatic envoys and diplomatic officials of business and technology from 21 countries, including Jordan, France, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Mexico, and Indonesia, participated in the event.
Exploring Smart Technologies: Experiencing the Future of AI and Robotics
Founded in 2011, Megvii is a privately owned enterprise based in Haidian District. Focusing on the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), smart cities, smart industrial parks, smart logistics, and beyond, the company has reached over 100 cities across China, with overseas business presence in more than 30 countries and regions.
Visit to the Megvii’s Experience Center
At Megvii’s “Smart World” Experience Center, foreign diplomats enjoyed an immersive experience in the convergence of advanced AI and IoT. In the smart logistics zone, AI-powered robots equipped with the “Hetu” system navigated flexibly through a simulated warehouse, completing sorting tasks with great precision. In the smart city section, diplomats interacted with devices to see firsthand how AI optimizes traffic scheduling, making urban operations more intelligent.
“This feels like I’m in the future! I could hardly have imagined AI being adopted so extensively in urban management, smart communities, smart factories, and warehouse logistics”, diplomats remarked in amazement, as scenes once confined to science fiction unfolded before their eyes.
Enterprise Promotion: Experiencing the Vitality of Tech Innovation
The Zhongguancun Dongsheng Science Park in Haidian District spans 4.53 square kilometers. Its phase one alone hosts over 400 enterprises, including six listed companies, four unicorn companies, 78 specialized, high-end, and innovation-driven businesses recognized at the city level, 23 “little giants” (top performers among specialized, high-end and innovation-driven SMEs that provide distinctive products or services), and 173 national high-tech enterprises.
Presentations on Cooperation Projects
In the park, diplomats gained in-depth insights into the operation and development of seven enterprises: Hlrobot, Surgerii Robotics, Wanwu Mirror (Beijing), eclicktech, SoundAI, AsiaInfo Technologies, and Beijing Institute of Electro-machining Co., Ltd. (BIEM). After listening to presentations on their respective international cooperation projects, many participants were deeply impressed by the companies’ vitality.
At the promotion event, Hlrobot highlighted its cutting-edge research and practical applications of humanoid robots. Surgerii Robotics introduced its independently developed whole-process endoscopic surgical robot technology and its global business. Wanwu Mirror, a domestic leader in synthetic data and simulation platforms, demonstrated a digital simulation of the physical world that can be used to improve governance efficiency and management precision, and support decision-making. As one of China’s earliest tech firms specializing in mobile performance-based advertising, eclicktech presented its global marketing solutions for both domestic and international clients. Many diplomats praised the park as an accelerator for local brands to go global.
Visiting and Experiencing Enterprise Products
The event also featured the latest outcomes from 23 tech innovation enterprises based in Haidian District. A dazzling display of tech products and interactive exhibits – including robots, drones, AI, immersive VR, smart hardware, biometric tech, biomedicine, and industrial software technologies – transformed the venue into a “mini tech expo”. Diplomats moved between exhibition stands, bending down to observe how devices operate, capturing innovations with their cameras, and engaging in animated discussions with representatives from tech firms for potential collaboration. Notably, SoundAI’s AI-powered headphones, capable of real-time translation in 66 languages, were quickly snapped up.
