The Meeting on People-to-People Diplomacy of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee was held on March 28. You Jun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, Head of the Organization Department, and Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

The meeting conveyed the principles of the CPC Central Committee on promoting the high-quality development of people-to-people diplomacy, people-to-people connectivity and social organizations’ efforts in going global. In addition, it outlined the key tasks of people-to-people diplomacy for Beijing in 2025.

As stressed in the meeting

It is essential to thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s discourses on people-to-people diplomacy, while planning and advancing the capital’s people-to-people diplomatic work in alignment with the major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics. It is also important to explore new ideas, methods, and pathways for people-to-people exchanges, thereby better serving China’s overall diplomacy, supporting the capital’s high-quality development, and strengthening people-to-people connectivity between China and foreign nations.

As pointed out by the meeting

Focusing on the country’s most fundamental interests, it is essential to coordinate and make good use of the capital’s advantageous resources in people-to-people exchanges, fully supporting head-of-state diplomacy. This involves designing and organizing supporting activities for people-to-people exchanges, continuously advancing people-to-people connectivity and serving the diplomatic endeavor of the Party and the country with the highest standards. Efforts should be made to promote high-level opening-up, actively supporting the high-quality development of the capital. To improve Beijing’s role as the center for international exchanges to high standards, we should prioritize the city’s strategic positioning as the capital and facilitate pragmatic cooperation with foreign countries, thereby serving and integrating into the new development paradigm. It is crucial to capitalize on the unique advantages of people-to-people exchanges to attract more high-end international resources to the city. We will enhance its international image and influence by creating innovative and influential people-to-people exchange events to tell Beijing’s story in the new era. Upholding the Party’s overall leadership, we should improve the effectiveness of the city’s people-to-people exchange mechanisms, and strengthen overall planning with the aim of establishing a cross-sector work paradigm with coordinated efforts.

The meeting was also attended by senior officials from relevant departments of central authorities, member institutions of the special mechanism on people-to-people diplomacy under the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, district governments, relevant institutions, people’s organizations, enterprises, universities, and social organizations. Additionally, representatives from the Capital Normal University, Beijing Overseas Talents Center, and China Association of Medical Equipment delivered speeches.

The Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee will further enhance coordination to deliver higher-quality services, and advance the branding and promotion of people-to-people exchanges. It will fully harness the enthusiasm and creativity of all non-governmental entities in the city, while forming a stronger synergy in Beijing’s people-to-people diplomatic efforts, thereby fostering a thriving ecosystem for people-to-people diplomacy in the capital.
