On January 17, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality jointly hosted the 2025 New Year Reception for Foreign Journalists in China at Langyuan of Beijing Capital. Vice Foreign Minister Hua Chunying, Deputy Director General of Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality Lei Xiaoning and Secretary of the CPC Chaoyang District Committee Wen Xian were present.
In her speech, Hua Chunying said that the year 2024 has been an extraordinary year, with China's development showcasing remarkable achievements and an abundance of compelling stories about China. The Chinese people grandly celebrated the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee was successfully convened, and a systematic plan was adopted for further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernization. China has implemented the new development philosophy, fostered new quality productive forces, and actively included more countries in its visa waiver program and extended the visa-free transit stay. The dream of "on-a-whim travel" to China has become a reality. The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, and human history has reached a crucial juncture. China will continue to expand high-standard opening-up, achieve high-quality development, be a reliable partner of other countries around the world, and work together to promote world peace, development, solidarity, cooperation, fairness and justice. Hua Chunying expressed the hope that foreign media and journalists in China will continue to play their unique role in telling wonderful stories about China to the world.
In conjunction with the Spring Festival, which the United Nations has inscribed on the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, immersive, panoramic and diverse Spring Festival-themed folk activities were arranged on site. About 800 people attended the reception, including foreign journalists and their families in China, diplomatic envoys to China, press attaches in China, spokespersons from relevant ministries and commissions, heads of foreign affairs offices from several provinces and cities, as well as domestic experts, scholars, and media representatives.
